Vai um carreteiro???

Comumente chamado simplesmente de "carreteiro", o arroz carreteiro (ou arroz-de-carreteiro) é um prato típico da culinária brasileira, originário do Rio Grande do Sul. Surgiu quando os carreteiros (transportadores de cargas) que atravessavam o sul do Brasil em carretas puxadas por bois) coziam em panela de ferro uma mistura de guizado de charque (carne de sol) com arroz.

Trata-se de um prato prático que por sua simplicidade podia ser preparado pelo viajante solitário, que comeria um churrasco (que é feito de carne fresca) somente em um paradouro, o que conseguia fazer somente depois de muitos dias de viagem.

Sem contar com geladeira e, tampouco, ter como congelar a carne, o carreteiro valia-se da carne de sol, que no Rio Grande do Sul é conhecida como charque (preparado nas charquadas), e esta se conservava durante os muitos dias da viagens empreendida pelo carreteiro transportador de cargas. Este, diferende dos mascates (caixeiro-viajante - comerciante ambulante), que, em geral, se valiam de carroças puchadas por cavalos, não ia de casa em casa ou de estância em estância, mas seguia pelo menor curso direto ao destino.

Elaborado originalmente à base de charque e arroz e tradicionalmente preparado em panela de ferro, é um dos principais pratos da culinária gaúcha.

Todavia, nos tempos modernos os gaúchos (ou rio-grandenses) preparam arroz com carne moída ou sobras de churrasco e chamam de carreteiro em alusão ao nome original "arroz-de-carreteiro".

O prato foi incorporado à cozinha brasileira e hoje é comum saboreá-lo em todo o país.

Mais um maravilhoso domingo de sol na serra gaúcha...

Aproveitei para passar a tarde em um dos meus locais favoritos, na cidade de Canela, junto ao "Laje de Pedra."

Comecei a ler "A Cabana", presente de uma querida amiga de Michigan, EUA, enquanto saboreava um revigorante chimarrão, e me deleitava ao sol, com a beleza do lugar.

O livro, cujo titulo original é "The Shack", foi escrito por William P. Young, e traduzido para o português em 2008, pela editora Sextante, e ficou em primeiro lugar na lista dos mais vendidos do The New York Times.

O livro é intenso, sensível e profundamente transformador, fazendo o leitor refletir sobre vida, morte, dor, perdão, fé, amor e redenção.

O livro é bom e o local é lindo, recomendo ambos...
